Home of Industry – Spitalfield No 10 1906-1924

Amongst the children sent out from Spitalfield in London was Edith Jennings, aged 13 when she was sent to Canada on board the 'Virginian' on 22 July 1910.

Her record provides an insight into her state of mind during her time in Canada, as she attempted to take her own life at each of the three situations she was placed. It didn’t seem to matter who she stayed with; she was obviously very unhappy and the following year returned to England. No one else wanted the responsibility in case the worst happened.
